Where and what did you study before you came to Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Waterloo?
Prior to my master's program, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Culture and Economics at the University of Mannheim, with a major in German Studies and a minor in Economics.
What are your interests in German Studies?
I am interested in applying discourse analysis to German Studies across both literary and linguistic domains, though my primary focus lies in literary studies. For instance, I view dystopian texts as providing a unique framework for exploring power dynamics. I am also drawn to queer literature and literary memory studies.
Why did you choose the University of Waterloo?
I discovered the unique joint master's program with the University of Waterloo through my home university in Mannheim, and I immediately knew I wanted to pursue it due to its intercultural perspective, the opportunity to live and study in Canada, and Waterloo's excellent reputation.
Do you already know what you want to write your thesis on?
Not yet—I hope my courses will help narrow down my broad interests.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a marine biologist, driven by my love for the underwater world. Although I still enjoy snorkeling and diving, my academic passion now lies in German Studies.
What is a fun fact about you?
I've traveled to many countries, but this is my first time in North America.
