The W.S. Rickert Graduate Fellowship in Science is valued at a minimum of $20,000. Fellowships will be awarded annually to graduate students registered full-time in a master's or doctoral program who are conducting research in the areas of Nano-medicine, biotechnology, and biomedicine at the University of Waterloo. Selection will be based on academic achievement combined with a review of research activity and academic merit as determined by the adjudicating commjttee in the Faculty of Science.
The value of the award will be determined by the income generated by the fund each year. The goal is to provide three to five awards valued at a minimum $20,000 each, on an annual basis. The value and/or number of awards may change from year to year.
The first selection will be made in fall 2019. Additional funds available in the Trust Fund may be used to top-up awards to $25,000 each for 10 years starting in 2019.
Eligible candidates must submit an application (found on the Faculty of Science website), two academic references, a letter describing their research (maximum two pages), a CV and a copy of their most recent unofficial transcript. Application packages should be submitted to the Faculty of Science, Associate Dean, Graduate Studies by September 30.
Recipients will be selected annually in October by a selection committee, chaired by the Faculty of Science Associate Dean, Graduate Studies.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
