Subject: St. Patrick's Day 2023
To all Waterloo students,
As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, you may want to celebrate with friends from Waterloo and other schools in the region.
I’m reaching out to remind you to do your part in keeping our campus community safe. Please listen to the guidance of regional officials, including first responders, and avoid large gatherings and unsanctioned street parties. They are dangerous, can quickly get out of hand and have previously resulted in students drinking too much, overdoses, assaults and general feelings of insecurity.
Large gatherings and street parties are not condoned by the University of Waterloo as they put you at risk, place strain on the region’s resources and impact the ability of first responders to support our community.
Socialize responsibly. Respect our neighbours. Watch out for your friends, your peers and yourself. Keep each other safe.
If you see anything happen and you need immediate support, you can contact urgent help options we have available or in case of an emergency call 911.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
