To: Graduate students at the University of Waterloo
From: James Rush, Vice-President, Academic and Provost
Date: Monday, March 4, 2024
Earlier today, we let University employees know about some reductions to the University’s budget for the next few years. We've put these new measures in place to ensure the financial stability of the University now and into the future, in response to many years of government under-funding of all universities in Ontario.
Our commitment to you – your studies, your community, and your wellness – is unwavering. Our faculty and staff will continue to deliver exceptional academic programing, experiential and research-based learning, and high-quality services and support. We will continue to invest in priorities such as student mental health supports, our new residence building, and enhancements to our campus and services for you.
If you are interested, you can read more about the details of the budget changes on the Provost’s Office website. If you have questions, please email communications@uwaterloo.ca.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
