To all Waterloo students,
With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, you may be planning to celebrate with friends from Waterloo and other schools in the region.
I’m reaching out to remind you to keep our campus community safe. Please listen to the guidance of regional officials, including first responders, and avoid large gatherings and unsanctioned street parties. They can quickly get out of control, they’re dangerous, and have previously resulted in students drinking too much, overdoses, assaults and overall feelings of insecurity.
The University of Waterloo does not condone large gatherings and street parties. These events put you at risk, place strain on the region’s resources and impact the ability of first responders to support our community.
Please take it upon yourself to socialize responsibly and respect our neighbours and each other. Take care of your friends, your peers and yourself. Ask for consent and keep each other safe.
If you see anything happen and you need immediate support, you can contact urgent help options or in case of an emergency call 911.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
