To date, the on-campus employment of full-time graduate students has been limited to 10 hours/week on average per term. The University has heard from students that there was a strong desire to provide greater flexibility in employment hours. Thus, while it is still the case that full-time students would typically not take on on-campus employment that exceeds 10 hours per week on average, the “10 hour employment rule” for graduate students was revised and approved by Senate in October 2021. Students may now pursue on-campus employment that exceeds 10 hours per week on average (but does not exceed 20 hours per week, on average, in each term), by following procedures outlined by their faculties.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
