Candidates for President

Cassie Lalonde

Cassie Lalonde

Program of study: History Major, English Minor

Term/level of study: 2B

For the past several months, I have been serving on the History Society as the second year representative. While in this role, I have had the opportunity to connect with many amazing students through the events we’ve hosted. I have loved being able to provide support and create spaces where students can connect with one another, and I believe that by being president, I can continue to do so in the coming year. I wish to represent our society as someone with experience and a passion to elevate the university experience of history and arts students.

Program of study: ARBUS - History Major

Term/level of study: 3B

I have made incredible memories with the History Society since first joining in 2023. It’s a community full of comradery, good vibes, and a shared love for the subject. I have previously served as the society’s Treasurer, President, and Events Coordinator, giving me a firm understanding of what it takes to run the Society. For 2026, I wish to return as the Treasurer. My previous experience handling the society’s finances, including securing $8,500 in grants for our annual MacKinnon Dinner over the past three years, has prepared me for this role. I am happy to have the opportunity to continue to give to the History community on campus. Therefore, as a person with knowledge, integrity, and experience, I ask for your support to become the next Treasurer of the University of Waterloo History Society.

As someone who's passionate about history and community, being on the History Society would allow me to share that with others. Having planned and executed dozens of events in the past I'm confident I can bring a fresh and experienced perspective to future History Society events!

Program of study: Honours Arts Co-op

Term/level of study: 1B

Hey everyone, I’m Antonio Vieira, running for the position of Communications Officer. History has interested me since high school, and I look forward to connecting with likeminded people. I wish to use my social media and communication skills to create an engaging social media presence to promote the existing appeal of the History Society. With previous club experience in my repertoire, I’m quite comfortable taking notes, writing agendas and participating in conferences, and I am thus equipped to help manage and promote the society. En masse, as a 1B student, I would love to be your Communications Officer.

Program of study: Arts Honours Co-op, Psychology Major

Term/level of study: 1B

I would like to be in the History Society because I have always been passionate about History. From literal school courses to writing a 4000 word paper on the Cold War, I have always found myself linked with and drawn to the subject. Despite not majoring in History, I'd really like to get involved with History as much as possible here at Waterloo, as well as just generally involve myself in the Waterloo community. As a communications officer, I hope to represent the Society well!
