Going Global 2021 Blog

Higher education institutions such as the University of Waterloo are filled with bright students learning skills to shape the world, researchers pushing the boundaries of current knowledge systems, and partnerships that catalyze collaboration and impact. This mix is a perfect ecosystem for developing knowledge and actions that promote positive social and environmental change.

Waterloo International and the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy are collaborating to lead a session on higher education’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at Going Global 2021, one of the world’s foremost conferences for leaders in international education.  For the session, Waterloo will be joined by partners from three continents.

Waterloo International is delighted to be participating in the 2021 Ontario Association of International Education Conference (7 to 11 June). Hosted by McMaster University – and with a theme of ‘Opportunities for International Higher Education: Keeping the Future Human’ – the conference serves as the Ontario Regional Meeting for the Canadian Bureau for International Education.

Waterloo International (WI) recently collaborated with Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) to showcase the University of Waterloo’s academic and research strengths, including graduate studies opportunities, to prospective graduate students and other stakeholders, from Latin America and Egypt.

Waterloo International welcomes the return of Ian Rowlands, PhD, associate vice-president, International.

Dr. Rowlands’ scholarly activities during his 2020 sabbatical focused on energy sustainability and internationalization in higher education; for the latter part of this work, he had an affiliation with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) as a Special Advisor.

“The need for universities to internationalize effectively is now more important than ever. The lessons learned from 2020 can serve us well in 2021 and beyond,” says Dr. Rowlands, associate vice-president, International, in a recent University World News article titled “Some questions for international HE to consider in 2021.” Read the full article, where Dr.

Nikolay Videnov, a master’s student at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) has won the title of Best University of Waterloo Presenter at the virtual research colloquium, jointly hosted by the University of Waterloo and the University of Strathclyde, last Thursday.
