A Road Trip to the Maritimes
The Maritimes, which consists of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick on the east coast of Canada, is one of the most beautiful regions to visit in the summer. With the celebration of Canada's 150th birthday, my husband and I went on a one-week trip to the east coast. People visit the Maritimes for different reasons. For me, what attracts me the most are the breathtaking landscapes, rich history and irresistible seafood. Below are some of my highlights of this wonderful journey.
A typical scene on Prince Edward Island (PEI). The lighthouse in the picture is the Wood Island Lighthouse located at the southeastern shore. Founded in 1876, it is the second oldest lighthouse on the island.
Camping on PEI is also a matchless experience. This campsite is located at the Northumberland Provincial Park, where you can fall asleep to the sounds of the sea.
A big ‘2017’ statue is seen in downtown Charlottetown. 2017 marks the 150th anniversary of Confederation, an idea that was born at the Charlottetown Conference in September 1864. The dream was finally realized in 1867 when the British North American Act was passed, marking July 1st as Dominion Day (commonly known as Canada Day).
On board the Northumberland Ferries, which has been used to carry passengers and cargo between PEI and Nova Scotia since 1941.
An astounding view from the Acadian trail on Cape Breton Island. The trail looks very primitive and we were informed that wild animals might be encountered in the area including black bears. Luckily, we didn't see any!
Last but not least, the famous lobster roll in Nova Scotia!
