Dana Porter Library, Special Collections & Archives, First Floor
Join the Library and Classical Studies department for an open house highlighting the Special Collections & Archives’ (SCA) Pyke coins, a collection of ancient coins ranging from the Persian Empire of the 6th century BCE to 19th century Britain. The collection is named after Edgar William Pyke, who was a high school classics teacher who collected the coins to use for teaching examples for his classes. The coins reflect the development of the monetary systems, art, religion and shifting borders of the world. The coins were donated to SCA by Elizabeth Kerr in 2019.
The Pyke study team, led by Classical Studies Professor Altay Coşkun, will be on hand to answer questions.
