The Guarding Minds at Work survey is based on Canada’s national standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace. The survey is available to all current Library staff from Monday, April 9 until 10 p.m. on Friday, April 20. Please check your staff email for the link, which was sent out by Linda Brogden on April 9.
Guarding Minds at Work is a unique, evidence-based, comprehensive set of resources designed to assist workplaces to identify and address the risk factors that impact employees’ psychological health and safety at work. A psychologically healthy and safe workplace is one that promotes employees’ psychological well-being and actively works to prevent harm to employee psychological health due to negligent, reckless or intentional acts.
Survey process
- Your responses to this survey will assist us to formulate an Action Plan to address the top 2-3 identified areas of concern across the Library, as well as at the department level or multi-department level, depending upon the size of your department.
- Departments with more than 20 employees will be assessed independently, whereas departments with under 20 employees will be grouped with other departments. Aggregate results for the entire Library will also be assessed.
- Once the survey has closed, any areas of concern will be identified. This will be presented by Linda and Katrina in Psychological Health and Safety Workshops which will be scheduled soon.
- Your answers to the survey are anonymous and individual responses will be kept confidential.
This survey aims to highlight areas of concerns within the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s (MHCC) “13 Factors that can impact the mental health of employees in the workplace”. However, if you feel you have a particular concern that is not captured by the survey, we welcome you to submit an anonymous, typed letter to Linda Brogden or Katrina Di Gravio via any method you deem appropriate (e.g. office mail; fax; mailbox at occupational health COM 115). This concern will be added on to the action plan and be taken up with the entire group.
