Library beta site open house April 6, 2015 notes

There was a good turnout at the open house, and some great feedback. The Library web redesign team provided an update on these recent activities:

  • The beta testing period is now closed and the icon has been removed from the lib.uwaterloo.ca home page.
  • The team is in the midst of implementing the navigation and content recommendations (Word) across the home page and WCMS pilot site.
    • The Services content type in the WCMS will be maximized as much as possible.
  • The “Find and use resources” page is under development at https://wms-dev.uwaterloo.ca/library/find-use-resources.
    • There are campus guidelines/constraints around left-navigation and a need for landing pages.
    • The “IP checker” module on the development site is a way to encourage people to login with proxy to access all resources.
  • Yifei has made changes to the homepage, including modifications to the “Hours and locations” block, which now features links to Google Maps for each library.
  • The content re-writing team has begun its work.

The meeting was opened to questions and discussion. Highlights include:

  • function of the filter on the “Find and use resources” page
  • ordering of items on the page
  • how articles are linked to from the site
