Web redesign update: January 7, 2015

Happy 2015!

This week, the Web Redesign Team has been working on a few items, and met yesterday and today to review, discuss and decision.

  • Yifei’s ‘Start Your Research’ navigation has been well received – whether as navigation or as a separate module
  • We suggest that 2 liaison librarians pair up with Yifei to develop the next level down so we can test it; Kathy S. and Jane F. will bring this to tomorrow’s ISR meetings to ask for volunteers
  • The Usability Team will start with accessibility & usability testing on expand/collapse pages
  • Recommend we migrate News site into News & Events section of new site
  • Usability plan and schedule
    • Work will begin in January for usability; accessibility testing will follow, and we’ll reach out to Janet Wason for her expertise
    • Recommended doing tree testing of the 2 navigation options as a random A/B test
    • Rose / Esther can help create flat pages for usabilia testing
  • We decided to keep having a series of open houses throughout the Winter term, approximately three weeks apart, for project communication and demonstration of items we’ve been working on.  The first of these will be on January 30th, 11:00-noon, DP 428
  • We are thinking about the Geospatial site being a phase 2 user experience test
  • Esther will be contacting various individuals we think are subject experts to review and comment on pages on the new site for accuracy and completeness

As always, please see the Web Redesign Sharepoint site (https://sharepoint.uwaterloo.ca/sites/Library/projects/redesign) for more documents and information on the project.

We haven’t received very much feedback from the December 18th open house, and so we are including that information and request for feedback again here for those of you who attended and who might have some feedback for the team.

Thanks all!
