New Research Resource Room Opens

One of the final pieces of the new Centre for Mental Health Research expansion has been completed – the Research Resource Room.

As part of the lengthy expansion of the CMHR, it was decided that part of this new space would be developed to support the various studies being conducted at the Centre, both now and in the future.  According to Dr. Ian Nicholson, Director of the CMHR, “By having designated space for research support, it is hoped that this will increase the visibility of the important role of research in the Centre.”

The Research Resource Room was designed to support research by, for example, supporting online database review in close proximity to client files, storage of research measures to be completed by CMHR clients, or private space for phone interviews of clients for research purposes.

Along with its important roles in providing community mental health service and training psychology students and residents, the Centre supports the University of Waterloo’s CPA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral program faculty in their innovative research on the development, persistence, and treatment of mental health problems in children, adolescents, and adults.  The new area can be used by faculty, their doctoral students, and their research staff to increase the integration of mental health research, training, and evidence-based care.
