Friday, May 13, 2016

Dr. David Moscovitch, Centre for Mental Health Research Executive Director, and Dr. Susanna Reimer, a psychologist at the University of Waterloo’s Counselling & Psychological Services,  presented a very successful workshop at last week’s Canadian Association for Cognitive & Behavioural Therapies on “Imagery-based Interventions in CBT: Useful Tools for Enhancing Treatment of Social Anxiety (and Related Disorders)”.

This very successful workshop introduced, to the over 200 professionals and students in attendance, a variety of imagery-based strategies, including imagery rescripting. The workshop also demonstrated how using such mental imagery could open up new avenues for enhancing case conceptualization and treatment as well as clinical research.

According to Dr. Reimer, "A main goal of our workshop was to have the audience ready to integrate basic imagery work into their cognitive and behavioural therapies. These important strategies were well-received by attendees. Our lively audience participated in the development of ideas, imagery practice, and brief role plays for experiential learning of these valuable clinical skills and concepts."
