CoSMH update - February 2019

Monday, February 4, 2019

The Committee on Student Mental Health (CoSMH) is in the final stages of implementing two high-priority recommendations, 17 and 20. Recommendation 17 addresses the accessibility of mental health training and mental health resources for faculty. In the most recent meeting, CoSMH members moved to request the inclusion of a mental health training component in each faculty’s respective onboarding processes and performance evaluations. Recommendation 20, regarding a single platform housing resources and supports, will also be finalized after additional peer support and community-based resources are listed on the Campus Wellness Resources Database.

UWaterloo is a leader in post-secondary mental health by virtue of the strides taken to meet the President’s Advisory Committee on Student Mental Health’s (PAC-SMH) recommendations, such as significant changes to our Counselling Services structure and the striking of mental wellness-focused committees and groups. Some of the changes being implemented are unique, and in searching for knowledge-sharing opportunities, CoSMH will be pursuing ways to participate in events such as the annual Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health Conference and the Higher Education Summit.
