International Day for the Elimination of Racism

In acknowledgement of the International Day for the Elimination of Racism; Dr. James Walker will address the community on Burnley "Rocky" Jones' contributions to human rights and race relations in Canada.

Following Dr. Walker's address, a panel discussion will be held on race and race relations in Canada.

Gendered Violence on Campus: Institutional Policy and Practice

This panel discussion will provide an opportunity to address gender violence with specific attention to institutional challenges and University of Waterloo's response. Guests will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue about this important issue and its impact on the lives of University community members.

Nationhood Interrupted: Revitalizing nêhiyaw Legal Systems

The Indigenous Speaker Series presents Sylvia McAdam (Saysewahum) citizen of the nêhiyaw Nation and co-founder of the Idle No More movement. She is a recipient of numerous awards and remains active in the global grassroots Indigenous-led resistance.

Citizens for Public Justice Internship
Application Deadline: April 9th

Are you passionate about social justice issues? Are you looking for a chance to apply your university education to pressing issues and current questions?

Each year, CPJ’s Public Justice Internship Program provides recent graduates with the opportunity to explore the meaning of public justice and join us in Ottawa. For one year, from September 2017 to August 2018, two interns will assist CPJ in our work on refugee rights and poverty in Canada.

Haida Gwaii Semester in Reconciliation Studies
Date: September to December 17
Location: Haida Gwaii, British Columbia

 

A microcosm of the world, Haida Gwaii is an unparalleled setting for students to learn first-hand about the complex social, cultural, political, ecological and economic issues facing communities around the globe, converging at a local scale.

The Haida Gwaii Higher Education Society (HGHES) in partnership with the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Forestry will be offering a Haida Gwaii Semester in Reconciliation Studies, the first of its kind in Canada. These are senior level university courses intended for third and fourth year undergraduates and open to students from across Canada and internationally through UBC’s visiting students program.
