Department of Philosophy
Philosophy addresses some of the most fundamental and difficult questions there are, such as: What is the nature of the human mind? What makes knowledge trustworthy? What are the standards of good reasoning? What is a just society? What is the best way to live? Philosophy as an academic discipline attempts to answer these questions with a combination of creativity and analytical rigor.

In February, Andria Bianchi participated in the Arts Three Minute Thesis competition and was selected the winner for the second day of the contest. She spoke with great eloquence about the challenges of establishing sexual consent when one or both partners has dementia. About 75 million people will have dementia by 2030, she said. They are unable to consent to sex, yet many are sexually active.
