As per NSERC I2I policy, university technology transfer offices are required to endorse, co-write, and agree to certain support and reporting obligations as part of the I2I application process.
Given this requirement for the use of formal institution resources to secure I2I proposals, Dean's Council passed a motion that WatCo shall only support those technologies which have been formally assigned to the university for WatCo commercialization support. WatCo requires time to undertake a commercialization assessment of the technology opportunity, thus it's important that researchers who wish to pursue an I2I application contact WatCo well in advance of the I2I proposal submission deadline.
