The nomination criteria are divided into the following categories:
- Everyday Heroes: Faculty and staff who have stepped up and made a difference in the lives of their students, colleagues or the general public.
- Future-Proofing Ontario’s Students: Faculty and staff who have led the way in adapting programming that supports new ways of learning.
- Equality of Opportunity: Faculty and staff who have excelled at creating opportunities in postsecondary education for marginalized and underrepresented groups.
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Faculty and staff who are working with industry and business to drive economic development.
- Rising Star: Graduate students and early career professionals who are making a difference in education, inspiring students or conducting innovative research in the postsecondary education sector.

Art of Neuroscience
This recognizes striking artworks related to the field of neuroscience in its broadest sense.

Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award
The TFD established the annual Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award (ADHRA) to honor individuals or organizations that have demonstrated long-term commitment and outstanding leadership in advancing democracy or human rights through peaceful means in Asia.

Balzan Prize
The International Balzan Prizes are chosen in two general subject areas: Literature, Moral Sciences and the Arts; and the Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences and Medicine. Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 is a dynamic awards program that identifies outstanding young achievers in Canadian business, visionaries and innovators changing the way things are done. Canada's Volunteer Awards - Government of Canada
Canada’s Volunteer Awards (CVA) recognizes volunteers, not-for-profit organizations, social enterprises and businesses for their contributions across the country. The Awards highlight the many ways that volunteering strengthens communities.

Canadian Science Policy Centre Awards - Youth Award
This award recognizes an individual under the age of 35 who proposes an innovative and compelling evidence-based policy proposal that will make a positive impact to Canadian society, economy, and/or environment. Energy Globe Award
The objective of the ENERGY GLOBE Award is to present successful sustainable projects to a global audience and to demonstrate that for most of our environmental problems feasible solutions are already available. Innovative projects and smart technologies from around the world are invited to submit. Participation is open to all projects which save our environment like resource conservation, improving air and water quality, energy efficiency and renewable energies and related areas. Expectation that the nominee will continue to produce cutting-edge achievements, which will have a seminal influence on the discipline. 3. Doctorate completed less than 18 years ago. 4. Detailed expert opinion by an academic working at a research institution in Germany who would like to invite the nominee to spend time researching in Germany. 5. Two expert reviews by important international and one from German collaborative partners and/or academics. 6. Governor General's Innovation Awards - Federation for Humanities and Social Sciences
The objectives of the Governor General’s Innovation Awards are to celebrate excellence in innovation across all sectors of Canadian society and inspire Canadians, particularly Canadian youth, to be entrepreneurial innovators. The Awards are given to individuals, teams and/or organizations whose innovations are Truly exceptional; Transformative; and, Positive in their impact on quality of life in Canada.
As Nominating partner, the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences is accepting recommendations of outstanding innovators or innovations from Waterloo. Those chosen by the Federation will have their nominations submitted to the primary sponsor for consideration.

Nominees must be living Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Posthumous nominations are not eligible. Nominees may be from any sector of activity – the arts, sciences, business, not-for-profit or community-based, for example. Nominees can be at any stage in their life or career. The aim is to have at least one young innovator among the winners who is 30 years of age or younger and who, individually or as leader of a team and/or organization, has been undertaking exceptional, transformative and innovative activities. The innovations for which nominees are proposed must be demonstrably having an active impact in the economy or society. |

Impactful Actions Award - Profound Impact
The Impactful Actions Award is an annual awards program recognizing leaders from around the world who are making a profound impact on the global community by inspiring collaborative solutions to difficult problems. This program brings together two of Profound Impact’s core values: open collaboration and making a positive impact.

John Simon Guggenheim Fellowships
The purpose of the Guggenheim Fellowship program is to help provide Fellows with blocks of time in which they can work with as much creative freedom as possible. Fellows may spend their grant funds in any manner they deem necessary to their work.

Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowship
The Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowship creates opportunities for mid- to late-career Canadian and international scholars to collaborate with NRC researchers. The Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowship provides release time for scholars who have demonstrated outstanding research ability and are proposing collaborative research with an NRC researcher.

The program operates on a co-PI model where the Fellow and the NRC researcher collaborate to deliver a specific project for a period of time (usually one year). Fellowship candidates who need help connecting with an NRC investigator can complete an Expression of Interest form beginning on April 2, 2024 [ed. forms and access to the NKP portal will not be available before this date]. The National Killam Program Office will consult internally and respond to inquiries within 10 business days. Interested applicants who already have a potential NRC co-PI identified can begin working on a submission when the program opens on April 2, 2024. |

Killam Prizes
The Killam Prizes are awarded to active Canadian scholars who have distinguished themselves through sustained research excellence, making a significant impact in their respective fields in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, and engineering.
Value of Award | $100,000 each. Five awards are issued per year (1 prize in each of the 5 fields). |
Eligibility requirements | Canadian citizens. Typically, the prize recipient is a full professor. Candidates have made a substantial and distinguished contribution, over a significant period, to scholarly research in Canada. A Killam Prize is not intended as an “end of service” reward, as recognition for one great accomplishment, or in expectation of future distinguished contributions. |

Killam Research Fellowships
The Dorothy Killam Fellowships provide support to scholars of exceptional ability by granting them time to pursue research projects of broad significance and widespread interest within the disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering or studies linking any of these disciplines. A Dorothy Killam Fellow is relieved of teaching and administrative duties for the period of the fellowship.

Northern Science Award

The objectives of the annual Robbins-Ollivier equity award are to:
- fund bold and potentially game-changing projects that will challenge the status quo, spark change and take action to address persistent systemic barriers in the research ecosystem and academia;
- recognize faculty members who contribute their time, expertise and lived experience to help address inequities in their institution, the research ecosystem and academia; and
- provide opportunities for students and trainees to contribute to this important work.
