Rosalía Cornejo Parriego is Professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Ottawa. She is the author of La escritura posmoderna del poder and Entre mujeres: Política de la amistad y el deseo en la narrativa española contemporánea, editor of the collection of essays Memoria colonial e inmigración: La negritud en la España posfranquista, and co-editor of the special issue "Queer Space" (RCEH) and the collection of essays Un hispanismo para el siglo XXI. Ensayos de crítica cultural.

Griselda Zuffi is a Full Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Hood College, Maryland. Her research focuses on post dictatorship testimonial narratives of the Southern Cone that denounce the effects of authoritarian discourses. She has done extensive research on topics such as discursive representations of Peronism through fiction, the uses of history in Chilean women writers of the XIX and XX century, and the relationship of human rights groups, journalists and women writers to the government.

The screening will be preceded by a keynote presentation about the current situation in Venezuela, and how the crisis is affecting neighbouring Latin American countries, delivered by Shiva Mohan, PhD Candidate, Wilfrid Laurier University. There will be a post-screening Q&A with our guest speaker, Mr. Shiva Mohan, PhD Candidate, Wilfrid Laurier University and Dr. Mario Boido, Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, specialist in Visual culture.

Uncovering Women's Cultural Heritage in Latin American Muralism

This presentation explores some aspects of mural art made by women, and their various forms of representation. It questions whether the construction of an artistic field, made of and by women, allows for the possibility of leaving a mark in art history,
a space where their contribution goes unnoticed even today. It will also establish how women themselves are those who reconstruct
a history that allows them to be made visible in a public and monumental space.

We are excited to promote October as Latin American Heritage Month (deemed by Parliament, June 21, 2018) along with the Department of Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion. In honour of this we are planning an exciting event filled with conversations surrounding Latin American Heritage and Culture.
