Why run?

  • Support and champion staff interests
  • Build lifelong skills and connections
  • Participate in University-level committees
  • Gain governance experience and training
  • Help make UW an even better place for staff to work!

About the role

Directors' roles are two-fold:

  1. The Board of Directors provides governance, financial, and long-term strategic oversight for the Association, working to ensure that the work of the UWSA is in full alignment with its by-law and other governing principles.
  2. Directors form a pool from which staff representatives are selected to serve on Staff Relations Committee and the Provost's Advisory Committee on Staff Compensation. These are two important committees that shape staff working conditions and compensation.

Directors are expected to regularly attend and actively participate in board and committee meetings; bring their best ideas to the table by considering each topic at hand and establishing a perspective; and participate in training and development activities.

Any director may eventually fill an officer role: secretary, treasurer, chair, or vice chair, which have additional responsibilities.
