Co-op Panel

Are you nervous about searching for a co-op? Have you already found a job and nervous about what comes next? Are you looking for tips and advice? Look no further! 

Come hear advice from five upper year students at our WiCS Co-op Panel! Join us to learn tips and tricks about interviewing, making a resume, networking, advice for first years, and anything else you’re wondering about their co-op experiences! On top of the panel, we will also be raffling off a $20 gift card!  

Join us for the panel on Feb 15th from 7:30-9!  

 

Scholarship Opportunity to Attend GHC

AnitaB.org offers unique scholarships to students and faculty and boot camp participants to attend our annual Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC), the largest gathering of women and non-binary technologists globally.   

Attendees gain access to career and academic workshops, networking opportunities, inspirational role models, and so much more!  

Scholarships are limited and have specific eligibility requirements. Applications are now open, so don't delay and start the process today!

Hack the North Organizer Opportunities 

"Do you want to make an impact on 3,000+ students from 40+ countries around the globe?  
Apply to be an organizer for Hack the North! Canada’s biggest hackathon is looking for students to be a part of their logistics, frontend, design, marketing, sponsorship, finance, and internal operations teams.   
You don't have to be an experienced hacker or involved in the tech community to join the team. Past organizers have come from a wide variety of academic backgrounds, and many team members have never even been to a hackathon before joining the team!

Speed Mentoring Event

Learn from and network with Waterloo Women Impact Network members – brilliant female Math alumni and allies – who are working across sectors and have advanced in competitive and top-performing industries. Students will be able to have quick yet intimate conversations with Math alumni who are working across a variety of fields and industries. Coaching in the form of etiquette and sample questions for the student mentees will be provided.  

The event will be held over Zoom on Wednesday, March 2nd from 12:00-12:45 pm EST.

Leveraging the Brilliance and Energy of African Women in Engineering and Math  

“Leveraging the Brilliance and Energy of African Women in Engineering and Math” is being organized to commemorate Black History Month and The International Day of Women and Girls in Math and Science. The event is being hosted by the Tshepo Institute for the Study of Contemporary Africa in Partnership with the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and the MS2Discovery Research Centre.

The 2022 Inspiring Diversity in STEM biennial conference 

The 2022 Inspiring Diversity in STEM biennial conference, hosted by Western University, will be held virtually March 12 & 13, 2022! The conference will feature an outstanding line up of keynote speakers, academic skills workshops, undergraduate poster competition, graduate program expo, and industry expo. Undergraduate and graduate students from across Ontario are invited to attend and participate!  

The undergraduate poster competition will be hosted on GatherTown giving presenters the opportunity to practice communicating research to a wide audience and get feedback from graduate students in STEM programs. Conference presentations look great on CVs and there will be prizes awarded to the top poster presentations! Graduate student volunteers are also needed to be poster judges. Read more

AI4Good Lab – Machine Learning Program 

The 2022 AI4Good Lab has a 7-week machine learning (ML) training program provides education, mentorship, and hands-on project experience to women and people whose genders are underrepresented in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) industry.   

Details:  

  • Application period: January 15th to February 15th  

  • Program dates: May 2nd to June 21st, 2022  

  • Cost: We charge no tuition fees ($75 registration fee for accepted applicants only)  

  • Stipend: Every participant receives a stipend of a minimum of $500  

  • Location: Virtual with possibility of in-person opportunities in Montreal, Edmonton, and/or Toronto  

Eligibility:  

  • Women and gender minorities (2SLGBTQ+ inclusive)  

  • Valid status to study or work in Canada  

  • Registered at a post-secondary institution or have recently graduated  

  • Strong math background, some Python programming experience  

  • No machine learning experience necessary!  

Program summary:  

  • 4-week machine learning bootcamp with lectures from Canadian AI researchers including Dr. Doina Precup  

  • Speaker series from top industry professionals, ML researchers, and social good leaders  

  • 3-week development of ML projects for social good. Participants work in teams and receive mentorship from AI experts
