WiCS Orientation: Volunteer Application 

Join us as a volunteer for the WiCS Orientation! This event is dedicated to welcoming first-year womxn+ in CS, CS & BBA, CFM, and SE programs. 

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to give back to the community, share your knowledge, and help new students navigate their first year. We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals to help with the logistics of the event and share their experiences and knowledge on a variety of topics that will aid in both social and academic success.

WiCS Tech Crawl 2024 

We are organizing a Tech Crawl wherein you get to have an insider’s view of top local tech firms and meet the brilliant minds shaping our digital future.  

Date: July 19, 2024, Friday 
Time: 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM 

What to Expect:

Last Chance: GHC 2024 Partial Scholarship 

Attention self-funded students attending the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) 2024! If you secured your GHC admission (academic or general), congratulations, you have already done the impossible and we are so excited to have you on board! We are pleased to offer funding to help cover the admission cost of GHC 2024 for you. There is $10 000 CAD available this year to help offset the cost of attending GHC. The amount allocated to each self-funded student will depend on how many people apply. 

To be eligible for partial funding you must submit proof of purchase of admission to the Grace Hopper Conference. Submit proof of purchase by June 30, 11:59 PM. After GHC, we’ll disburse funds to successful applicants. Join our pre-conference networking events and connect with fellow scholars.

Deadline Extension: Early Undergraduate Research Experience Program (EREP/ UR2PhD) 

Are you a University of Waterloo student in your second year (2A) or beyond? Do you have a passion for computer science research and a curiosity that extends beyond the classroom? If so, we have an exciting opportunity just for you! 
 
Apply for the Early Undergraduate Research Experience Program (EREP/UR2PhD) offered by Computing Research Association (CRA) and University of Waterloo. The aim of this program is to provide early research experience to undergraduate students to bridge the gap between undergraduate and graduate studies. 
 
Last date to apply: July 10, 2024, 11:59 PM 
 
This is your chance to: 

  • Dive into CS research early in your academic journey. 

  • Earn credit for CS 398/399 courses while exploring innovative topics. 

  • Receive mentorship from current graduate and PhD students who were once in your shoes. 

  • Participate in two-hour weekly online classes with CRA to bolster your research skills. 

  • Participate in a 1-hour weekly research meetup with everyone in the program.

Mentor Opportunity for FLIGHT Virtual Summer Camp 


FLIGHT Virtual Summer Camp is a two-week program designed for girls aged 13-18 who self-identify as Black or another underrepresented minority. During the camp, students work in teams to create technology-backed business ideas related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). They receive guidance from guest speakers and mentors on problem definition, market research, and prototyping. 

We are seeking Mentors with FLIGHT virtual summer camp from July 15 - 26, 2024. Below is a summary of the Mentor role (FLIGHT attendants) and commitment: 
 

  • mentor a team of 3-5 online via Zoom and Google Chat 

  • mentoring means: answering questions, helping teams to stay on track, and offering guidance when required 

  • we are looking for a minimum commitment of 2 hours from 1:30-3:30pm EST for one week of the camp 

  • attend a short 15-minute orientation

Co-op Internship this Fall at RTC 

Join Rewriting the Code (RTC) remotely for a six-month co-op internship this fall. RTC is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women in technology. They seek a motivated Data Analyst Intern to assist with data management, cleaning, and analysis at $17.50 per hour. 

This role offers hands-on experience in data operations while supporting RTC's mission to equip women with the tools to succeed and lead in the tech industry.
