WiCS Events:
CAN-CWiC: WiCS Sponsorship 2026
CAN-CWiC is the premiere Canadian computing conference for young women and non-binary students in technology. This annual event has been offered since 2011 and features networking, learning, sharing and mentoring — bringing together leaders in research, education and industry from across Canada. Last year’s conference attracted over 450 attendees! This year’s conference will be held at the University of Waterloo. WiCS provides free registration for a select number of students each year, covering the cost of a ticket and meals. Sponsorship applications close September 13th!

WiCS x Google Resume Critique and Breakfast
Will you be submitting applications for co-op or full-time opportunities this Winter? Looking for feedback on how to improve your application and resume? Look no further! Come to the WiCS Resume Critique event, where recruiters and mentors from Google will provide valuable advice and tips on how to structure your resume when applying for tech positions. Be sure to bring a copy of your resume that you can share with a Google mentor for 1-on-1 feedback.

Beyond Co-op: Turning Your Internships into a Career | OpenText Panel
What happens after your co-op ends? Join us for an engaging conversation with three recent graduates now building their careers full-time at OpenText, who all started their journeys as co-op students at the University of Waterloo or Wilfrid Laurier University. Learn about their career journeys and experiences, the paths they’ve taken in the technology industry, and the advice they wish they had known as students. Hear firsthand how they made the most of their co-op experiences, built relationships, stood out during their work terms, and turned their internships into rewarding careers.

We are opening up the WiCS Study Room Fob request form for the fall term. Fobs will be available to pick up after the second week of classes. Click here to fill out the form!
If you took out a study room fob in Spring 2026 and still haven’t returned it, you can stop by the WiCS co-op office (DC 2509) to drop it off. You may slide it under the door if nobody is around.

Velocity Pitch Competition
We’re kicking off Waterloo Tech Week 2026 with the Velocity Pitch Competition. 100 students, 100 judges, and one day of lightning-fast pitches. A presenter from each team will have two minutes and no slides. Just you and an audience full of supporters who want to help you thrive and a chance at the $5,000 top prize. Undergraduate Research Awards (URA)
The NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) is a financial award that allows outstanding undergraduate students to work with a faculty member in an academic research environment for a semester. USRA recipients take part in a research project in an area of Computer Science, under the direction and guidance of a supervisor. The type of work will vary depending on the supervisor, the project, and the student's background.
The Mathematics Undergraduate Research Award (MURA) Program is an undergraduate research award program sponsored by the Faculty of Mathematics. This award provides experience that nurtures an interest in research careers and mathematics experience for undergraduate students with financial support during a full-time, on-campus or remote position for 16 weeks.

Jane Street Winter Programs
Jane Street is offering several Winter programs to undergraduate students. All programs will take place in New York City.
Winter INSIGHT: A multi-day program where women and gender diverse individuals are invited to learn about Jane Street’s approach to solving challenges. Click here to learn more.
