Pride in STEM Panel
Join WiCS for our second annual Pride in STEM panel, a conversation and “Ask Me Anything” featuring queer and gender-diverse UWaterloo staff, students, and faculty in STEM. This engaging panel will explore the challenges, successes, and unique perspectives at the intersection of identity and STEM, offering an opportunity to learn from diverse experiences and ask questions in an open, supportive environment. Bubble Tea will be provided for refreshments. RSVP in advance to help us estimate how much bubble tea to order. After registering, you will receive a link to submit anonymous questions for the panel if you wish.

Pride in Film: A WiCS Movie Night
WiCS is hosting a movie night in honour of Pride Month in MC Comfy, open to all members of the UWaterloo community. Come kick back, chill, and watch “Everything Everywhere All at Once” while meeting new friends!

Tech Crawl
Come check out local tech companies’ headquarters with us at this year’s annual Tech Crawl! Visit Google’s iconic Kitchener building and OpenText’s new Global Command Centre. Plus, OpenText will be hosting a panel discussion with a Q&A with one of their Cyber Security/Digital Office leaders. Lunch is also included!

NEW COURSE (Fall 2026) - CS 497: AI Transformation in Organizations (Healthcare)
Despite the rapid proliferation of AI technologies, the adoption of AI solutions in organizations remains challenging. In many work contexts, it is unclear what problems AI can/should help solve and how AI solutions fit into workflows. There is an increasing demand for AI transformation experts (or forward deployed engineers), who understand not only technical aspects of AI implementation, but also the process of integrating such technologies into workflows and institutional environments.
CS497 is a project-based course that teaches students how to tackle AI transformation challenges in organizations. In Fall 2026, CS497 will be held with HLT480 -- CS and Health students form teams and work with health organizations (e.g., hospitals, primary care clinics, rehabilitation centers, retirement homes) to co-create AI prototypes. Students will have the opportunity to interact with clinicians, administrative staff, patient advocates from a variety of healthcare settings.
The course is open to CS students, and students outside of CS with technical backgrounds (e.g., Engineering).

Jane Street’s INSIGHT Program
This January, Jane Street is excited to host our INSIGHT program in New York City! We’re inviting students who identify as women, transgender, and gender-expansive to spend four days in our office learning more about roles within our firm and how we solve challenges at Jane Street - including specific concepts and tools we use in our daily work.
Selected students will arrive in New York on the evening of August 17th and will depart the morning of August 22nd. Jane Street will provide all travel to and from New York, including meals, housing, and a variety of social events.
INSIGHT has three different program tracks students can apply for:

Trading & Research — students will learn about mathematical and financial topics such as probability, market structure, and arbitrage through a combination of short lectures, group games, and mock trading sessions. They will also get exposure to machine learning and how Jane Street traders use modeling and research in their work.

Software Engineering — students will learn about OCaml, the libraries and tools we use in our daily work, and put them to use building a computer game. Participants will practice technical communication skills, problem-solving techniques, and software engineering interview skills through hands-on practice and mock interviews.

Strategy and Product — attendees will get a glimpse into the work that goes on in our Strategy and Product Internship and rotational program. Case studies and problem-solving exercises will introduce participants to how we optimize funding and financing, set up new trading flows, respond to regulatory inquiries, and generally manage the complex mechanics that underlie Jane Street’s business.
