WiCS Involvement in Fall Initiatives 

WiCS is looking for upper year students who want to get involved in WiCS activities this Fall term! We have various initiatives that will be taking place including Bubbles, WiCS Con, Mock Interviews, and Student Profiles on the WiCS Instagram and website. Please fill out this form if you are interested in taking part in any of these initiatives. Please note, this is limited to UW students.

WiCS Make a Schedule for the Term and Meet your Classmates 

Have you realized that online learning is much more challenging than in-person learning? Do you struggle with managing your time? Do you miss the social interactions with your classmates?

In this event, we will work on making your personalized schedule for the fall term. A schedule helps you to visualize all the deadlines and plan your days to avoid procrastination.

More importantly, come out and meet your classmates. School would be much more fun if you study together and keep each other accountable.

This event focuses on first-year students, but upper-year students are welcome as well.

This event takes place on September 14th, between 4-5 PM EST. 

  

  

WiCS Splunk Salary Negotiations Workshop 

Know Your Worth!

Join Chris Chan, Engineering Manager at Splunk, to learn strategies to better advocate for yourself and execute effective salary negotiation! He will be joined by UWaterloo alum.

This workshop will be held on September 14th, from 5-6 PM EST. 

  

  

  

WiCS Wish and Bloomberg Resume Critique 

Are you submitting applications for co-op or full-time opportunities this term? Looking for feedback on how to improve your application and resume? Look no further! Come to the WiCS Resume Critique event, where Wish and Bloomberg recruiters and mentors will provide valuable advice and tips on how to structure your cover letter and resume when applying for tech positions. Be sure to bring a copy of your resume to receive one-on-one feedback from company mentors!

This event will be held on September 15th, 4-5:30 PM EST. 

  

  

WiCS Meet your Bubbles Event 

Welcome to the WiCS Bubbles! This is the first opportunity for us to meet one another. 

  

Alice will first go over some fun activities we have planned for this term. After that, you will meet your fellow Big and Little CSters and figure out the best way to communicate during the term.

This event will be held on September 16th, from 3-4 PM EST. 

 

WiCS Mock Interviews 

WiCS is holding mock interviews by upper year tech mentors, and sign-ups are open! 

The event will be held in the week of September 20th.

Bloomberg Software Engineering Opportunities and Information Session 

Bloomberg, the global business and financial information and news leader, is offering Software Engineering Opportunities which include Full Time as well as Winter 2022 Co-op opportunities that are too good to miss! For more information, and to apply for these opportunities:

Bloomberg engineers develop impactful software solutions that are utilized every day by leading business and finance experts worldwide. They are looking for co-ops to join their teams as well as actively recruiting for full-time Software Engineering positions. Join their information session via Waterloo Works to learn more about opportunities and to hear a tech talk from one of their engineers about some of the work that they do. 

The information session will be held on Thursday Sept. 16 from 5-6 PM EST.

  

CAN-CWiC 

CAN-CWiC is the premiere Canadian computing conference for Women in Technology.

CAN-CWiC 2021 will be held virtually from Sept 25 to Sept 26.

Hack the North Mentor Applications 

Are you an upper year student and are interested in volunteering this year? Hack the North would love to have you volunteer as a mentor! It's a great way to meet their hackers and share expertise to help hackers with their hack or provide advice related to education and career aspirations. 

  

  

  

WiM Virtual Welcome Event 

Get to know other women in math and build your connections in a virtual meet-up! Women in Mathematics will be welcoming new students to the Faculty of Mathematics during the Virtual Welcome Event. Get the chance to hear from the dean and faculty representatives, mingle and talk with other students, and more!

SoGal Waterloo 

SoGal Waterloo is looking for a Fall 2021 marketing lead with an interest in entrepreneurship! SoGal is a global non-profit bridging the diversity and inclusion gap in entrepreneurship and venture capital funding. Responsibilities include driving the online presence and branding of SoGal Waterloo, promoting events and resources to students and our community, and writing recaps of our events on Medium.
