The Department of Anthropology is pleased to announce that Public Issues Anthropology MA students Evie Strickland and Robyn Wood have each received Canada Graduate Scholarships - Master's from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), while Aparajita Bhattacharya has received an Ontario Graduate Scholarship for this academic year.

2023 Silver Medal Event

Join us on Wednesday, March 8th from 5:00 to 7:00pm for the 2023 Silver Medal Event. Our distinguished guest speaker this year is Prof. Lindsay Bell of the Department of Anthropology at Western University who will be presenting a lecture entitled “Under Pressure: Diamonds and Everyday Life in a Northern Town”. This event will take place in HH 1102 with a reception to follow in HH 373.

The department of Anthropology annually awards the Iris Yuzdepski Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in Year Four in the Department of Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts.

Congratulations to Christinneanne Mclellan, Claire Reynolds and Carley Marentette.  

Congratulations to Dr. Mark Dolson on receiving an Arts Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Dolson is a caring and committed teacher who is dedicated to his craft and to ensuring student success. He has offered courses at all levels, ranging from small seminars to large lectures in both Arts and Health and is noted for to creating excellent pedagogical opportunities for his students.

Congratulations to U Waterloo alum, Dr. Thomas Siek on being offered a one-year Assistant Professor position in Biological Anthropology at McMaster University. Dr. Siek completed his MA in Public Issues Anthropology at the University of Waterloo in 2014, and his PhD at UCL in 2019. He will be starting his new position in July 2022 and we wish him great success in his new position!

The department of anthropology annually awards its Silver Medal for Academic Excellence in Anthropology prize to a 3rd or 4th year anthropology student. The award winner is chosen from among our most highly achieving students, taking into consideration the activities and contributions to departmental life made by the student. The intention is to honour an excellent, all-round promising anthropologist.
