Students bring Roma XLIV exhibition to Toronto
Waterloo Architecture students' annual exhibition Roma XLIV opened on August 8 at the Distillery District in Toronto.
The annual exhibition highlights fourth-year undergraduate student work created during the fall term at the School of Architecture Campus in Trastevere, Rome. Previously installed in downtown Galt, the 2024 exhibition was shown in Toronto for the first time in over 20 years and attracted a large crowd of students, alumni and friends of the School.
The Distillery proved to be the perfect location to showcase this project which involved the reuse of an abandoned industrial site on the bank of the Tiber just downstream from our Trastevere campus. The site, while in the city's center, had become isolated and largely inaccessible. The students’ projects were driven by the twin desires for social integration and inspiring public space.
The show would not have been possible without the generous donation of space by the Distillery District and the support of our alumni and friends of the school. We thank everyone who attended the opening reception to celebrate the work of our students.
