John Franklin departed from England for Northern Canada with 129 crewmembers on the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror in search of the Northwest Passage. They were never seen again. The Franklin Expedition has been shrouded in mystery for a long time, and it is only in 2014 and 2016 respectively that the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were discovered.
