Faculty Support for Research and FPER Computer Purchases
The Arts Computing Office (ACO) provides support to faculty members in the Faculty of Arts who are purchasing computers through Faculty Professional Expense Reimbursement (FPER) funds or for research purposes.
ACO can:
- Provide quotes and facilitate procurement through university-approved processes.
- Assist with technical specifications during the ordering process to ensure the purchase meets both research and teaching needs.
- Support with configuration of the Campus VPN to ensure that connections are protected and software updates proceed uninterrupted. Details here: https://uwaterloo.atlassian.net/wiki/x/WAB26gk
- Provide setup and configuration services to ensure new or existing equipment is secure and compliant with University of Waterloo guidelines.
- Assist with asset management, including warranty tracking and warranty-related support.

- There is no charge for this service.
- Faculty are encouraged to engage ACO early in the purchasing process to avoid delays and ensure compliance.
- Assistance is available for existing equipment already purchased.
