Dawn
- Computing Technology and Services Committee (CTSC) updates
- 1 of 3 directors retired, another retiring soon in Information Systems & Technology (IST)'s Information Systems group.
- Steve Carr (IST Client Services) will be working on a review of campus digital signage and kiosks.
- Andrea Chappell, Instructional Technologies and Multimedia Services (ITMS), would like feedback on the effect Congress 2012 had on IT staff and teaching across campus. Arts Computing Office (ACO) was not noticeably affected.
- Bruce Campbell (IST Network Services) wants to know issues people are encountering with the new IP Address Management (IPAM). He is also seeking at least 4 faculty reps to participate in the campus border firewall project, expected to be a 1 year effort.
- IST will be testing Virtual Private Network (VPN) endpoint compliance with IST staff before announcing and enforcing it for the campus at large.
- Information on IT spending across campus has been compiled as part of a campus-wide effort to identify costs ahead of a possible reduction in provincial funding in the 2013/2014 fiscal year.
- Stratford campus update
Stratford computing purchases are awaiting final budget approval. Timing to set up and test the labs ahead of August 27 MDEI bootcamp will be tight.
A 3 month contract (July through September) has been offered to James Wilkinson, who has been their web designer and ad hoc technician for the past year, to provide IT support until a permanent employee is hired. ACO will provide assistance as needed. - Arts websites and the campus Waterloo Content Management System (WCMS)
Wendy Philpott and some ACO staff had a meeting to discuss the Faculty's web content management needs and ways to sustainably meet them. Dawn and Sean later met with staff from IST's WCMS team. IST has offered developer access for Sean with site manager privileges, as well as the option of using their co-op students to migrate content as is and a staging server to migrate content with information architecture changes if/when Arts departments and groups move to the central WCMS. - ACO projects
Dawn, Bob, Keith, Nevil and Barb met to review ACO projects. A monthly meeting will be scheduled for all ACO project leaders. - rollover equipment has been ordered
The Dell computers for the faculty rollover were ordered last week. Apple computers were ordered yesterday. Two new faculty have requested hardware changes using funds from their startup grant: these machines have not yet been ordered. If a new faculty member arrives and does not have the computer they requested ready, we can provide a loaner if a computer is needed.
