Bob

  • Options for Faculty Rollover laptops
    Bob asked that it be investigated whether it would make sense to spend the extra money on ultralight laptops.  Having without DVD would lessen what could breakdown within the 4 years. 

Dawn

  • SANS Security Essentials Course April 16-21
    Keith and Sean will be attending the Security Essentials Bootcamp course Jason Testart has arranged for 25-30 IT staff across campus. The course runs from 9am to 5pm Monday through Saturday with a mandatory lab running until 7pm the first 5 days.
  • 2011-12 financial year end approaching
    We should make sure planned purchases for the year (e.g. thin clients, Uninterruptible Power Source for Psychology-Anthorpology-Sociology (PAS) machine room) are completed and equipment arrives on campus well before the end of April.
  • Draft metadata standards (Draft at time of meeting no longer available; Jan 2011 Electronic Recordkeeping Metadata Standard)
    The new University Records Manager, Chris Halonen, is working with Marg Stephenson in Information Systems & Technology (IST) and others to produce standards for the creation, modification, and retention of metadata related to electronic record keeping.
  • rogue access points
    Bruce Campbell has provided Computing Technology and Services Committee (CTSC) members with a list of over 1100 rogue access points from a recent survey of the campus wireless network. Many of these unnecessary APs are interfering with wireless access. Bruce is considering a publicity campaign to remind staff and faculty that unnecessary APs in offices disrupt wireless service to students.
  • power shutdown in the new wing Saturday March 31 6-8am
    A final shutdown of the power in the PAS extension is planned to complete electrical modifications.

Barb

  • staff rollover computers have arrived and the students are getting them ready
  • changed the Arts Computing Office (ACO) minutes web pages to Drupal

Keith

  • Cogito connected to 1G port
    The Cogito server (backup master) is now connected to a 1G port.
  • French scan to Email fixed
    The French department’s Xerox 4150 scan to email has been fixed.
  • Xerox Phaser 8560 resurrected
    Keith resurrected one of the failed Xerox Phaser 8560 printers (this was the one returned from French). This will replace the recently failed English printer.
  • Artsstore1 patched
    Microsoft patches have been applied to the Artsstore1 server.  The artsvms server should be done also. 
  • Email Committee report:
    • It was suggested that pre-creating Connect accounts prior to bulk moves would help to speed things up.  A request to add the rest of the Arts accounts has been submitted.
    • Exchange moving to Nexus authentication – date of move has been delayed until April 10th.  This move will require a considerable amount of pre warning and “day of” support.  We need to make sure users have a Nexus account and know their Nexus password.  It was suggested that information about this be mentioned at the April 5 Lunchtime session.  Should we send an email about this as well?
    • Bob Hicks will be reviewing the email documentation collection with the idea to clarify and update the information
    • It was reported that using the Exchange Admin tools can assist Help Desks determine email issues for their users.  Additional admin staff in the faculties will be allowed to access these tools – Trevor Bain will plan on doing a presentation to Faculty Computing User Support Group (FACCUS)
    • IST is testing a web-based File Transfer service (FileCatalyst) that will allow users to “exchange” files that may not be appropriate (too large) to be sent through email.
  • The Artsservices GlobalSign certificate has been renewed
  • An Elmo projector has been installed at 180 King St.

Guillermo

  • Group Policy Client Service Failed The Logon HELP - Access denied error: resetting the user's profile fixes the problem.
  • St. Pauls web access for Lindsay Restagno​
    sftp access was denied for her to the info server. Configured Dreamweaver using Samba share.
  • Malware on Luanne McGinley's machine: reported to IST, HD image sent to IST. re-imaged and redeployed.

Scott

  • GreenITAG submitting position paper on printing to CTSC
  • The Reset Nexus Profile page has been fixed (removed Madoka from the round-robin of DC's since it's been removed from Active Directory)
  • Win7 Ent x64 image being updated for rollover systems
  • Group Policies by Security Group in Nexus fixed
  • Economics Software (2 DOS based pieces) are being packaged
  • St. Paul's is looking into a product called Starrez for filling their residences and booking their hotel rooms. This will require a new member server. Keith looking into a server that can hold spc-fin and the new Virtual Machine (VM) with ACO possibly pitching in so we can use some space for other ACO VM's
  • Raisers Edge fixed for ajmcknig
  • Nexus printers disappeared from laptopprint.exe (i.e. Arts printers not visible to wireless users). Was fixed yesterday (and again today)
  • Spc-fin patched early yesterday and restarted for St. Paul's
  • Reasearch Data Centre (RDC) had an issue with a user's data run consuming all the resources on their research system. They were told about Process Explorer from sysinsternals

Sean

  • Cygnus profile/ redirection / home folders OU/policies in place, want to move peoples files from artsfaculty to nexus before their new machine is installed.
  • New Grad Studies Printer HP 3015 installed, added to nxsartsapp, artsvms, artsprint (for Mac)
  • IP Address Management (IPAM) is coming, April 22 - 25th no DNS changes during that time, No public text records with new system
  • Virtual Private Network (VPN) additions for multiple Deans Office personel went smoothly.
  • French (FR) 151 TA Evaluations program put online: fr151eval.uwaterloo.ca , just modified old arts course questionnaire code with new questions
  • Drupal Updates/Patches, small problem with CKEditor removing inline styles after update fixed
  • Stratford has sent a request for a quote for a lot of new equipment (55 + computers-Macs; projectors, etc.). 
    It’s not clear who was consulted to make the recommendations for the equipment.  Who will be providing support?

Doug

  • Video for VPN
    Doug is working on a Video with instructions for VPN

    Working on helping with the Connect moves--running into issues with folders.

    Helping Susan Gow with Skype problems (change in the registry needed to be made)
