Associate Provost, Co-operative and Experiential Education, Dr. Norah McRae (she/her) and Director of International Strategic Initiatives, Shabnam Ivković were awarded best paper at WACE’s 4th International Research Symposium on Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education in September, 2022.

CEE was honoured with a gold designation at the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Reimagine Education Awards in December. CEE’s Power of Partners for Prosperity program earned the honour in the Power of Partnerships Award category.

Co-operative education at the University of Waterloo was built in from the very beginning. That strong foundation has allowed us to not only build the program we have today with more than 25,000 students and 7,500 employers, but build opportunities beyond co-op for our students. They learn how to navigate the hiring process, applying their skills to real-life problems and learning about themselves along the way, ultimately preparing them for the future of work. Waterloo Experience (WE) Accelerate program is announced as an ongoing option for co-op students who struggle to secure a traditional co-op job in their first work term.

Colleen Philips-Davis becomes associate director of equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism (EDI-R) in Co-operative and Experiential Education. Co-operative education will change to deepen staff knowledge and to future-proof students through an EDI-R lens.

In this article, David Drewery and Katie Knapp explore students’ organizational commitment pertaining to workplace friendships. This study found that organizational commitment is greater when work experience quality is greater. Additionally, workplace friendships still developed during remote work-integrated learning.
