Two universities, one degree, multiple opportunities

The Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies seeks excellent students to join the unique Joint MA program in Intercultural German Studies. The program is fully funded and includes one year of study at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and one year at the University of Mannheim, Germany. Students obtain a combined joint degree from the two universities.

Postdoctoral Fellow in History with a focus on German-Canadian migration or Canadian-German relations

The Chair in German-Canadian Studies at the University of Winnipeg invites qualified candidates to apply for the one-year Postdoctoral Fellow position in History with a focus on German-Canadian migration or Canadian-German relations. Application Deadline: 4 January 2019. Position Start: 1 July 2019 or 1 August 2019.

14th GERMANIC AND SLAVIC STUDIES CONFERENCE

All graduate students, undergraduate students, faculty and alumni from the Germanic and Slavic Studies Department as well as from other related disciplines are invited to submit proposals for papers to be given at the 14th Germanic and Slavic Studies Conference at the University of Waterloo. 

Spend May and June in Germany with other students from all over Canada and earn university credits, live in a German home, walk through the Brandenburg Gate, immerse yourself in the German language, and more!

The Canadian Summer School in Germany (CSSG) offers Intermediate and Advanced German Language & Culture Courses German Immersion Community Service Learning Courses

Geisteswissenschaften International Nonfiction Translators Competition (Deadline November 15)

Geisteswissenschaften International in cooperation with Frankfurt Book Fair New York is inviting all aspiring translators of German to participate in a competition.

The winning translations will receive prize money – first place: $1500, second place: $1000, third place: $500.

Choose Your Own German Book! - Thursday, November 29 7-9pm

Another 'choose your own adventure' Reading Group! Instead of the Centre stipulating the book, we're leaving it up to you! So, read whatever German-related book you'd like, be it written by a German/Swiss/Austria author in whatever language you can easily read, or a novel that really interests you that's been translated into German, and bring it along to the meeting.
