Lunch and Learn: Mass Spectrometry - RSVP

What can mass spectrometry do for you and your research project?

Dr. Richard Smith
Manager, University of Waterloo Mass Spectrometry Facility (UWMSF)

When: Wednesday, May 22, 2024
Where: Department of Chemistry, C2-361
Time: 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Abstract: Mass Spectrometry is a powerful analytical tool that can help you accomplish your research goals when the qualitative or quantitative determination, identification or structural elucidation of purified materials or complex samples derived from biological or environmental matrices is required.

The question is how can the UWMSF help you with these complex analytical problems? We offer a variety of capabilities, namely, hyphenated techniques such as GC/MS and LC/MS along with tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS and MSn) which in some cases can be combined with Ion Mobility (IM) as well as high resolution, accurate mass capability to further deconvolute complex samples.

In this informal Lunch and Learn seminar, we will explain what we have, what we can do and how these state-of-the-art instruments can be employed to help you.

Bring yourselves, your questions and an appetite as pizza and drinks will be provided.

Richard Smith: After receiving his BSc and PhD in the UK, he conducted postdoctoral work in the USA. Richard has extensive academic experience in mass spectrometry, as well as in industry (pharmaceutical and mass spectrometry) and is adjunct faculty at the University of Waterloo.

Please RSVP below by Friday, May 17th at 3pm.
