Abstract: Nitrogen-containing aromatic rings are found throughout medicinal chemistry. Our laboratory is interested in developing new reactions that convert sp3 C-H bonds in these heterocycle systems into C-N, C-O, and C-F bonds. In more complex settings, multiple reactive C-H bonds may be present, and we are particularly interested in transforming these bonds with predictable site-selectivity. In this presentation, I will elaborate on the initial hypotheses and experiments that led to the discovery of catalyst systems in our lab that achieve exactly this.  Ongoing research that will be presented is working to develop and understand new systems that can select between different heterocycles. Recently, we have also discovered new functional group transformations that expand the scope of reactions that can be achieved site-selectively using our approach.
