Quantitative Chemical Analysis Laboratory
- It is highly recommended that CHEM 140 is completed prior to taking the lab.
This course consists of a three-hour weekly lab period and is a corequisite to CHEM 220. Students will work individually for six experiments and in pairs for two experiments. Experiments are designed to give students the opportunity to learn and improve upon analytical skills, while also increasing their ability to understand and critically assess analytical results. Basic analytical principles are illustrated through chemical analysis of several “unknown” samples. Methods of analysis include volumetric titrations, gravimetric analysis, spectrophotometry, gas chromatography, and liquid chromatography. A strong emphasis is placed on accuracy of analysis and proper scientific documentation.
