CHEM 262L

Organic Chemistry Laboratory for Engineering Students

  • Textbook: There is no textbook for this course. A printed laboratory manual outlining all experimental procedures, safety practices, report formats, and data treatment is available through the on-campus bookstore.

This laboratory course is designed to accompany the content of the lecture course CHEM 262 through a series of experiments reflecting the following areas of study: acid-base chemistry, substitution, and organometallic reagents. The main objective of this laboratory course is to expose students to various organic chemistry laboratory techniques, such as determining the identity of unknown compounds using physical properties, boiling point determination, melting point determination, thin layer chromatography, distillation, and liquid-liquid extraction. Students will also have the opportunity to design aspects of their own experiments.

Please remember that the Undergraduate Calendar is always the official source for all course descriptions.
