Lawrencium, 103, Buena High School, California, U.S.A.
Lawrencium: After researching lawrencium I very quickly had an idea of what I wanted to do for my periodic tile. I wanted to incorporate the fact that lawrencium was radioactive and to recognize the person after whom the element is named — Ernest Lawrence. I chose to paint the background for my tile black and gray so that the bright green paint splatters and letters would stand out. The bright green that I chose for the symbol and atomic number represents the element’s radioactivity. Finally, I wanted to do a simple yet interesting portrait of the person honored by this element. I decided that a white outlined painting would stand out the best.
