- Prerequisite: CHEM 360
This course is intended to provide an overview of chemical processes that are non-toxic to reduce or eliminate the impact of chemicals on the environment. The fundamentals of Green Chemistry in relation with sustainability will be introduced and an array of green chemical processes will be presented: the use of biomass as renewable feedstock, atom economical processes, synthesis without protections, tandem reactions, flow chemistry, photocatalysis (photoredox processes), green catalysis,catalyst-free methods, C–H functionalization, mechanochemistry and solid-state chemistry, and the use of green solvent alternatives for Chemical Synthesis.
