The CHEM 125L laboratory course aligns with the concepts presented in CHEM 125 lecture course, giving students hands on experiences to support and enhance the lecture content while strengthening laboratory skills and improving analysis techniques.
Five experiments will be conducted over the term exploring some or all the following areas: reactions in aqueous solutions, thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, chemical equilibria, acid-base equilibria, pH chemistry (including buffers) and electrochemistry.
Experiments focus on developing skill in solution preparation, measuring energy changes, pH measurement, clock reactions, titrations, and in the use of spectrophotometers, pH meters and voltmeters. Emphasis is placed on data analysis, calculations and graphically displaying information as well as scientific communication.
