CHEM 400: Ultrafast Structural Dynamics

  • Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course. However, a good level of mathematical proficiency is necessary to understand the solutions to differential equations, linear algebra concepts, and other related topics.

The course covers fundamentals related to classical optics, electromagnetic wave propagation in vacuum and dielectric materials, conditions for laser operation, generation of ultrashort optical and electron pulses, basic nonlinear optical effects, and the implementation of ultrafast X-ray and electron diffraction techniques for studying structural dynamics.
