CHEM 360L

Senior Organic Chemistry Laboratory

This laboratory course is designed to accompany the content of lecture course CHEM 360 through a series of experiments reflecting the following areas of study: separation and determination of unknown molecules using spectroscopy and physical properties, carbonyl and amine chemistry, enolates and Aldol reactions, cycloaddition reactions, and palladium-coupling reactions. One of the objectives of this laboratory course is to re-iterate previously seen techniques and to expose students to new techniques common in organic chemistry such as: liquid-liquid extraction, distillation, thin-layer chromatography, recrystallization, column chromatography, and spectroscopy. Experiments are selected to represent the above techniques and content. There are a few textbooks that complement the material of this laboratory course (see resources). All lab content can be found on LEARN.
