- Corequisite: CHEM 360
This course focuses on the analysis and description of organic reaction mechanisms. Topics include transition state theory, reaction coordinate energy diagrams, and More O’Ferrall–Jencks diagrams, as well as the interplay between kinetics and thermodynamics. The course will also cover key experimental and theoretical tools for investigating reaction mechanisms, including kinetic studies, isotope effects, substituent effects, linear free-energy relationships, and the isolation and detection of reaction intermediates.
