Polymerization techniques beyond traditional free radical polymerization and condensation polymerizations will be introduced. These techniques, by varying polymerization conditions, initiating and catalytic systems, allow macromolecular chains to be regulated, e.g., chemical composition, architecture, and stereochemistry. The resultant polymers possess functions applicable for various applications from colloids, engineering plastics, rubbers to nanomaterials.
The first week of lectures will be devoted to reviewing the main concepts covered in CHEM 370/MNS 322 that are most relevant for CHEM 400.
