This course will start out with general principles of drug-receptor interaction, as well as uptake, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs. We will then look at different types of drugs and drug targets, including drugs that act on ion channels, G protein-coupled receptors. We will examine the biochemical effects of these drugs and consider how they relate to physiological and pathological states such as neuronal excitation, blood pressure, inflammation, infection and cancer.
The course cuts across disciplines and covers a lot of ground. In students' comments, it is often described as demanding with respect to both the amount of information and the overall degree of difficulty.
Please remember that the Undergraduate Calendar is always the official source for all course descriptions.
