CHEM 432

Metabolism 2

This course covers nucleotide metabolism, the synthesis and degradation of nucleotides, and the synthesis of nucleotide cofactors. In addition, the synthesis and degradation of heme and the folates will be covered. For each pathway, the class will cover the mechanisms of the enzymes, regulation of flux through the pathway, the relationship between disfunction of the pathway and human disease. The class will also focus on the targeting of these pathways for treatment of diseases. The use of the pathways in microorganisms for the synthesis of useful compounds will also be covered.
