Advanced Biochemistry

The focus of this course is the biochemistry of amino acids. Topics include nitrogen fixation, nitrogen assimilation, pathways for biosynthesis of amino acids and their metabolism, urea cycle, amino acid transport. Emphasis is set on mechanistic aspects of the enzymes and cofactors associated with these processes and their regulation mechanisms. As well, this course will discuss medicinal chemistry and biobased aspects of the above topics and will include recent research papers from the literature.
