Dr. Vershawn Young has just been elected to the position of Assistant Chair for the Conference on College Composition and Communication.

CCCC’s was established in 1949 and, with roughly 7000 members worldwide, is the largest organization dedicated to research in the fields of writing studies and communication pedagogy in the world.  As the new Assistant Chair, Vay will be the Program Chair for the 2019 Conference and then move on to Chair the conference as a whole.

This is a significant, highly visible, and important service role in the fields of rhetoric and composition.  Vay’s election to this post signals both the respect his scholarship has garnered in the field and the confidence of the membership in his leadership.

While the organization is based in the United States, its membership is international and I believe that Vay will be its first leader serving from a Canadian University.
